Rather than succumbing to the temptation of blaming, reap great benefits by striving to learn from the mistakes and missteps by:
- identifying the failure,
- opening analysing and discussing the failure, and
- experiment to discover solutions.
Confront the Real Possibilities of Failure
Paradoxically, by openly confronting the reality that you may fail, actually increases the chances that you will succeed. Be able to envision failure, take that into account and plan for strategies and alternatives.
Adopt a “The Buck Stops Here” Mindset
Even if, as is often the case, the responsibility for a problem actually lies somewhere else, in someone else’s hands, take the stand that you, as the leader have an accountability in whatever the matter. From that stand, see that you have a definitive say and responsibility in the matter.
